Tiffany Gayle Chenault is a Professor of Sociology at Salem State University and the author of The Unseen Politics of Public Housing: Resident Councils, Communities, and Change. She’s also a Heartbreak Tuesday morning pacer and captain of Black Girls Run Boston.
Her new memoir, Black Woman Runner, takes readers on a meaningful journey through the often-overlooked relationship between running, living, healing, and Black life. Drawing from her experiences as a runner, writer, and researcher, Chenault explores the personal and structural forces that shape how we move through the world.
The book moves between personal memories and larger questions about society, illuminating the connections between freedom, movement, running, and the power of embracing stillness.
As Francesca Sobande, co-author of Black Oot Here: Black Lives in Scotland, writes:
“This vital book is testament to the unique work of a runner, writer, and researcher who brings together such experiences in a memorable and meditative way.”
