A packed house in LA on Friday night to celebrate Coach Bennett’s new book, This Is About Running. This Is Not About Runnining.
Despite what can sometimes feel like a never-ending “running boom,” the reality is that the vast majority of the world still doesn’t run. Which was the motivation behind this book in the first place. How do we get more people to run? Not just to race, or to get faster, or because they need to hit some arbitrary mileage goal, but because of what can happen when you start. After those initial steps, you begin to know yourself a little better. You realize you can do things you didn’t think you could do. You find your people, and a reason to get out the door on a Tuesday night when absolutely nothing else exciting is happening in your life. You learn that sometimes the best part of running has nothing to do with the run itself.
From Coach Bennett to LA, the message feels pretty simple: it’s not about convincing people to run because running is good for you. It’s about reminding everyone that there is something waiting for us on the other side of that first step. And that’s the running boom we’re interested in.
