We played host to Emily Infeld in Chicago ahead of our Longest Long Run weekend. Emily celebrated this moment with us back in 2019 and is a connected part of the Heartbreak extended family. As an athlete, Emily is the poster person for resilience and never giving up. She burst onto the world stage with a Bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing (2015) over 10,000m. She snuck by Molly Huddle right at the line, the perfect illustration of why it's important to run through the line in consequential races. She went on to represent the US at the Rio Games of 2016 and then in World's again in London 2017 (10K in both cases). There were serious bumps after that: major hip surgery, a scary stalker ordeal, missing the 2020 Olympic team, and moving on from long time team and coach. She had every opportunity to choose to move on from the sport but she persevered. In 2022, she missed the 10,000m qualifier by .4 of a second and went into the 5K USATF Championships with nothing to lose. And, damn, did she go big! She earned her spot on the team (just .1 behind second place) closing her last mile in a mile PR for herself of 4:25. She had a bout with COVID just before worlds but still showed up and placed 14th IN THE WORLD. She feels like she's just getting started. It was a special night getting the behinds scenes from the super-woman herself. Photos from the event can be found here. We did a cheeky little Q&A you can watch:
