It’s been three long years since one of the world’s top 800m talents has been able to compete.
After battling a series of injuries, Donavan Brazier is back, and he’s back on top. Last month, he won the U.S. Track and Field Championships, earning his place on Team USA for the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
Photographer Adrian Umpierrez was there to capture one of the most powerful moments of the weekend: Brazier, seconds after the finish, embracing his fiancée with the emotion of everything he’s fought through.
