I love catching students in that after-school light. When the classroom is behind them. There’s this unmistakable energy in the air, the kind that says the day is technically over, but the good stuff might just be starting.
You can see in their posture, the way they lean forward even when standing still that the day’s weight is starting to lift, and their bodies know it before they do.
This photo, taken at Eastern Parkway, was post-class, pre-commute. They’re paused. Maybe mid-sentence, maybe mid-thought, already halfway on to what’s next.

Moments in the Middle is a series on Heartbreak's blog, the Heartbeat, featuring photography by Fidelis Teixeira curated by Marielle Hall. It's about defining those middle moments—the times that often go unnoticed but carry the weight of who we are and what we value. These are the moments of connection: to place, to community, and to each other. Learn more here. You can search more on the blog here.
