We're in the race of our lives. There has never been a more critical moment to exercise our right to vote. In the midst of a global pandemic & the racial justice movement (the largest social movement in this country's history), the consequences of inaction are too great.
As we prepare to unite and cast our ballots again, we also celebrate 100 Years of the 19th Amendment. Certified on August 26, 1920, women were legally allowed to vote for the first time. Despite this step forward, Jim Crow and other loopholes limited many Black, Indigenous, and women of color from exercising their right to vote until decades later, a reminder that progress is often incremental. On January 21, 2017, the women's march became the largest single day protest in US history (at that time). It's time to take that fight into the polls.
While pockets of our country feel charged and ready, others feel overwhelmed and disenfranchised. Many are hardened and dug-in. Real change, the progress we want, requires sacrifice and humility, speaking and listening, understanding and growing - but most importantly,
action and participation.
While the choice of President receives the most attention, the selection of State and City leadership also has a profound affect on our daily life.
We encourage using resources such as BallotReady.org to educate yourself on every matter associated with your local elections.
Our elected leaders make policy and their names often make the headlines but we put them there. This is a race we cannot afford to sit out. It's time for action.
WE THE PEOPLE RUN THIS DEMOCRACY.
