Nomio

"Olympians Can Eat All the Pasta in Italy. So Why Are They Drinking Broccoli?"

That was the Wall Street Journal's question after reporters went looking for what endurance athletes at the Milan-Cortina Olympics were quietly relying on between hard efforts. The answer was Nomio, already widespread across Nordic skiing in Europe, and now spreading through cycling and running.

The appeal isn't mysterious once you understand what it does: it helps clear lactate faster during the short, brutal recovery windows inside a hard effort — the climbs-with-no-flat-section kind of day, or the interval-after-interval kind of session. Clear lactate faster in those windows, and you're a different athlete by the final push.

Swedish researchers from Karolinska Institute (the same team behind the foundational research on nitrate and beetroot) spent 8 years stabilizing the fragile plant compounds (isothiocyanates, or ITCs) that make this work.

Most athletes don't believe it'll work until they check their numbers. That's the most common pattern in Nomio reviews: skepticism going in, converts coming out, usually because they noticed it in their lactate readings or their power file, not because someone told them to feel it.

On taste, we won't oversell it. This isn't here to win a flavor competition. It's lemon-forward with a broccoli edge that fades in seconds - down in one shot, not sipped. We sell it because of what it does, not because it's delicious.

How to Use Nomio

Take one shot 3 hours before your key workout or race. For the first 90 minutes your body draws down existing glutathione; it then rebuilds and peaks around hour three, right when you're toeing the line. During heavy training blocks, stage races, or back-to-back race days, take a second shot before bed: this is where a lot of athletes discover Nomio's second job - waking up feeling recovered instead of wrecked.

Cole Hocker, David Roche, Mads Pedersen, and world-class marathoners running 2:05 splits all rely on Nomio as part of their training stack. In research, subjects experienced up to a 12% reduction in blood lactate accumulation, the kind of margin that separates fading on the final climb from finishing strong.
