One of the only places you can find Jerry Schumacher is trackside at the best races in the world where he'll be coaching the winners or the contenders - which means these days he's even harder to find than usual.
He doesn't use Instagram, he doesn't tweet, and I couldn't even find him on the Bowerman Track Club website. He makes Bill Belichick look like a media darling he's so good at avoiding the spotlight. He's a coach's coach - he lets his athletes' performances speak for him. And man, do they speak. If you follow the careers of runners like Shalane Flanagan, Emily Infeld, Kate Grace, Marielle Hall, Shelby Houlihan, Evan Jager, Moh Ahmed, Ryan Hill, Chris Solinsky, or Matt Tegencamp, then you're familiar with Jerry's work. He coached them all.
In February 2020, BTC came down from altitude camp to test their fitness on the Boston University track and they lit it up with American records & fresh spots on "all time" lists. It was a clear signal to the running world that if you want to represent the USA at the 2020 Olympics, you're going to have to get through the Bowerman Track Club to do it.
