Creative Process Behind the Scenes | Art of Speed

Creators participating in the Art of Speed received this directive from our creative brief: "in designing your own racing kit, think about who you want to represent."

Led by Greg "The Professor" Itahara & Luc Larson, artists wielded heat transfers, angelus direct paint, and paint markers to bring their designs to life. For many, this was their first introduction to vector file creation. Once their vision was transferred to the scalable digital medium, it was time to send the output to the vinyl cutter for "printing". Ameerah Vania printed a new swoosh with BLM a fist. Sam Zona used 6 layers to create a retro race t-shirt vibe.

Angelus direct paint is a specialty acrylic paint designed for fabrics and leathers. Kam Casey wanted a full tie dye effect but traditional dyes don't work on polyester. The team went ahead with the acrylic paint which enlivened the tie dye inspiration with a fresh and new texture.
