Joan Benoit Samuelson talks about the Boston Marathon Starting Line

Joan Benoit Samuelson is a legend of global distance running. She's also classic New Englander who just gets the work done and then goes racing. If you need a primer, here are some highlights: two time Boston winner , Chicago winner, American record holder, and the first ever women's Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist. If that wasn't enough, she's broken three hours in the marathon in 5 decades! She shares some gems here with Coach Dan about the day she won in 1979: she was late to start because she was enjoying coffee with friends. She'd also never been there before. It didn't stop her from winning the race. Another year, she brought 2 left shoes to that start. No bother. She parked pretty close.

Most notably, none of this mattered to Joanie. She knew her body was prepared and she'd race when the gun went off. Watch the full chat below.
