Joan Benoit Samuelson is a legend of global distance running. She's also classic New Englander who just gets the work done and then goes racing. If you need a primer, here are some highlights: two time Boston winner , Chicago winner, American record holder, and the first ever women's Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist. If that wasn't enough, she's broken three hours in the marathon in 5 decades! She shares some gems here with Coach Dan about the day she won in 1979: she was late to start because she was enjoying coffee with friends. She'd also never been there before. It didn't stop her from winning the race. Another year, she brought 2 left shoes to that start. No bother. She parked pretty close.
