[Originally published in 2020 in celebration of the release of our Women Run This Democracy collection, we asked our community leaders to share their thoughts on voting right now. Here's Heartbreaker Captain and co-founder of Trailblazhers, Abeo Powder.]
"Now more than ever, we must rise. Rise into action, for the sake of our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation. As we strive for the change we are incredibly overdue for and in dire need of, we must rise to the polls. In our push for change, it is our responsibility to make sure that we vote for and elect individuals who will support and join this push and do so passionately, diligently and with vigor. In our push for change, we must also reflect on the lengthy journey in overcoming gender and racial barriers to finally empower ALL voices with the right to vote. We cannot lose sight of that and undermine that fight with inaction. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, we are reminded that there is still tremendous work to be done. The injustice that continues to plague our nation in a variety of forms reminds us of our unfinished business. So we must MAKE IT OUR BUSINESS and RISE TO THE POLLS."
