What’s new about the Invincible 3?
First, one thing that bears emphasis: The Invincible 3 is not an overhaul of its predecessor. Rather, it’s an all-around enhancement on the Invincible 2’s primary features.
According to the Invincible 3 footwear designers, the team was adamant about not making any radical changes to the previous style. They shared that the responsiveness, cushioning and support from the Invincible 2 is back in a sleek new look—they just upgraded the technologies that deliver it.
Of those upgrades, cushioning was primary: The Invincible 3 has more foam than both the Invincible 1 and 2, yet still manages to look less bulky. This is due to the team creating a sleeker, more streamlined design with a slimmed down silhouette as part of the shoe’s new, futuristic visual style.
“The Nike Invincible 3 is really that easy running day shoe,” said Charles Han, Senior Footwear Designer, Performance Running for Nike. “Getting people in what was essentially a racing foam, and scaling it for everyday use was super exciting. It was like uncharted territory.”
Just like the cushioning, the other improvements aren’t immediately apparent to the eye—however, they’re noticeable once you put the shoes on.
The goal is always the same with every version: To help you feel invincible when you run.

Shock Absorption
When you run, your foot hits three motions: landing, transitioning, propelling. This ZoomX cushioning is shaped specifically to support all three phases. Meaning, it absorbs the shock of the pavement, feels especially soft when your foot lands, and then helps rock you forward into your next stride.
Springy Responsiveness
Along with comfort, ZoomX foam is also super responsive. When your foot lands, ZoomX snaps back with equal force. This creates that light, bouncy feeling with every step and helps you get more out of your runs.
“With ZoomX foam, when you’re bouncing and you’re hitting the foam, it’s like touching the softest memory foam mattress you could get,” said Han.
Tuned Stability
The heel and midsole are both slightly wider than before—which helps prevent your foot from rolling inward—while a smaller, more precisely placed heel clip provides extra support.
According to Han, “the shoe holds the foot down onto the ZoomX slab and that support goes through the entire foot,” he said.
Sock-like Fit
An evolved, form-fitting FlyKnit upper helps keep you feeling snug. It’s also highly breathable, with targeted zones to help prevent your feet from overheating.
